fracture (2024)

Excerpt:

fracture is a multimedia installation that explores the experience of trauma, inspired by the artist’s own recovery from a life-threatening brain hemorrhage. Through visual, sonic and sculptural components, the concept of “fracture” serves as a metaphor for the physical, psychological and emotional effects of a life-altering injury. The work explores an alienation from one’s own body, represented through the artists’s relationship to the guitar, an instrument she once played but no longer can due to longterm effects of the injury. The work seeks to reflect the journey of coming back into one’s self after experiencing trauma, and the sense of discovery that can come through the process of healing.

Gowanus Creative Walk (2023- )

On this “creative walk” participants were invited to take photographs to document their experience along a route through Gowanus, a formerly industrial neighborhood in Brooklyn, centered around the Gowanus Canal. The area has experienced significant change and redevelopment as the result of rezoning which occurred in 2021.

The aim of the walk is threefold: First, to inspire participants to creatively engage with the built environment. Second, to highlight the history of the neighborhood. And finally, to collectively create an archive that will document further changes in the area.

The walk is in its third year, hosted each spring as part of Jane’s Walk NYC.
